Probing quark gluon plasma with jets.

چکیده
We study multiple scatterings of jets on constituents of quark gluon plasma and introduce energy–energy correlations to quantify their effects. The effects from a longitudinally expanding plasma on medium as well as high energy jets are found to be significant at both RHIC and LHC energies. Because jets escape from the plasma long before the completion of mixed phase, these effects are free from complications of final state hadronic interactions and decays. These suggest that jets can be used to probe the plasma that might be created in future high energy heavy ion collisions. PACS numbers: 25.75.+r, 12.38.Mh, 24.85.+p, 12.38.Bx

Jet conversions in a quark-gluon plasma
Quark and gluon jets traversing through a quark-gluon plasma not only lose their energies but also can undergo flavor conversions. The conversion rates via the elastic q(q̄)g → gq(q̄) and the inelastic qq̄ ↔ gg scatterings are evaluated in the lowest order in QCD. Including both jet energy loss and conversions in the expanding quark-gluon plasma produced in relativistic heavy ion collisions, we ha...
متن کاملModeling Magnetic Field in Heavy ion Collisions Using Two Different Nuclear Charge Density Distributions
By studying the properties of matter during heavy-ion collisions, a better understanding of the Quark-Gluon plasma is possible. One of the main areas of this study is the calculation of the magnetic field, particularly how the values of conductivity affects this field and how the field strength changes with proper time. In matching the theoretical calculations with results obtained in lab, two diffe...
متن کاملHigh-energy photons from passage of jets through Quark-Gluon plasma.
We calculate the production of high-energy photons from Compton scattering and annihilation of a quark jet passing through a quark gluon plasma produced in a relativistic heavy ion collision. The contributions are large and reflect the momentum distribution of the jets and the initial conditions of the plasma.
متن کاملThe Jet Quenching in High Energy Nuclear Collisions and Quark-gluon Plasma
We investigate the energy loss of quark and gluon jets in quark-gluon plasma produced in central Au+Au collisions at RHIC energy. We use the physical characteristic of initial and mixed phases, which were found in effective quasiparticle model for SPS and RHIC energy [5]. At investigation of energy loss we take into account also the production of hot glue at first stage. The energy loss in expa...

We report on an experimental comparison of the characteristics of quark-induced jets based on an analysis of jet events selected from hadronic events at c.m. energy of 60 GeV in e+e- annihilations. The triangle plot shows that the majority are two-jet events. The three-jet events are also present but not as many as two-jet events. The mean transverse momentum is larger for three-jet events th...
